What the success of Zionism might look like
The Zionist objective has always been to ethnically cleanse the land of Palestine of all of its non Jewish inhabitants in order to create a "lebensraum" for the Jewish people. This was "sold" to the powers of the West as being a way to put a European country at the heart of the Middle East. The idea was "sold" to the Jewish diaspora as being the only way in which the Jewish people could find a safe place in the world. The State of Israel seems to be close to realising that objective. How might the world look if it succeeds?
More refugees
Three million Palestinians would be left seeking refuge in neighbouring countries to add to the two million already there.

Endless war
The Middle East would be in a state of permanent war with Israel, intent on further expansion, loathed by its Arab neighbours.

Impact on Israel
What is the impact on a country of being surrounded by enemies and having young people being trained to slaughter others?

A pariah state
Public opinion around the world is turning more against Israel as the pictures show what is being done in Gaza and the West Bank.

Jewish diaspora
As Israel becomes more powerful the Zionist movement is becoming more intimidatory to all who oppose it, particularly Jews.

Suppression
Greater suppression would be needed throughout western countries as opposition to Israel would inevitably mount.

Islamophobia
Proponents of Israel attempt to create fear of Muslims in the West in order to detract attention from the horror of what Israel is about.

Antisemitism
The defenders of Israel wish to argue that being against Israel is antisemitic. They run the risk of making antisemitism meaningless.
A different future needs to be envisaged
Knowing that it is surrounded by enemies, Israel is determined to ensure that no other country in the region is allowed to gain the sort of power that might threaten it in the future. Israel is a country of nine million inhabitants, of whom some 2 million are Arabs. In the larger Arab world there are approximately 450 million Arabs. As Germany pushed eastwards in the 1940s the area that it saw as its living space became, in the words of one Turkish official, a dying space as the Germans were routed at Stalingrad. Is Israel really the best way to provide a safe space for the Jewish people? There is another way of envisaging the future.

One state
Israel has largely made a two state solution impossible. A one state solution needs to be imposed on the region.

A democracy
It should be a genuine democracy in which every citizen has equal rights and in which no one group can have supremacy.

Right of return
Palestinians evicted from their homes in 1948 should have the right to return, as was stipulated by the United Nations at the time.

Financial aid
The West and the Arab world should help finance these moves rather than spending money bombing the region or football clubs in Europe.
